What started as a simple idea to bring people together for a friendly football match has turned into a heartwarming annual event that’s now raised an incredible £5,000 - £6,000 in support of The Being Foundation and Manchester Children’s Burns Camp.
On Sunday, April 28th, Mossley’s Seel Park once again played host to the Charity Football Match and Family Fun Day, with Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service taking on local legends, The Bohemians. The Bohemians are more than just a football team, they're a key part of the community, and are proudly managed by the uncle of one of our young adult camp participants.
This special partnership was sparked after our 2023 ski trip, when Heather (a camper’s aunty) reached out to ask if we’d be interested in organising a friendly match against the Bohemians. That conversation quickly evolved into something bigger, and with the support of a retired watch manager from the Fire Service, who rallied together a Brigade team, the first game was set in motion.
The event was such a success, we knew we had to do it again. 2024’s match was no exception, drawing crowds from across the community. With food, entertainment, and a great atmosphere from 10am onwards, it became more than just a football game, it was a day of togetherness, laughter, and giving back. Admission was by donation, and the generosity of everyone who attended helped raise crucial funds that will directly benefit children and young people affected by burns.
The Charity Match has not only become a fixture in the local calendar, it’s a symbol of what can happen when communities come together for a shared cause. A huge thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, cheered, and donated.
Here’s to more goals, more fun, and more impact in 2025!
